Twitter Rules Of Engagement

1.  Decide how Twitter might benefit your company.twitter post

Is it to drive new or repeat business, test public opinion, ask for suggestions, offer last minute deals, enhance customer relations, or provide a connection between you and your followers?

2.  Watch and observe other tweets.

Especially those taking place in your your industry and with competitors.  This will help you find your unique voice on Twitter.

3.  Commit to 3 daily tweets.

  • One to promote yourself or company.
  • Another on a topic you’re passionate about.
  • Finally a re-tweet of something or from someone you like.

More tweets are fine, but keep the self-promotional tweets in the mix with helping and talking about others.

4.  Use Twitter Search.

Discover new people to follow and find others you respect.  More followers will expand your exposure to the conversations happening about your industry or brand.

5.  Who are your competitors following?

You may want to follow the same.  If privacy is an issue, you may want to use a different account to go undetected.

6.   Create your Twitter reputation and credibility.

Consistency in quality of tweet, professional attitude, frequency you tweet, and the courtesy you show others will boost your ranking.  Remember to keep it friendly, but not too friendly.

7.  Don’t keep tweeting on the same themes.

Not everyone will be interested and you may lose followers if they keep reading similar tweets.  Worse yet it tweeting the exact same content repeatedly.

8.  Be personal but not too personal.

This is a business relationship and your Tweets can always be found on the Internet.  They never go away.  Think before you hit send.
